The song was written by Andy Gibb and his three older brothers — Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb — during a relaxed evening in Los Angeles. The Bee Gees were in town working on the film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and the brothers needed to start assembling tracks for Andy's second album. As Andy later recalled, they sat down and within ten minutes had the chorus going, with all four Gibbs singing together.
