The song was built around a sample from the 1979 disco track 'More Spell on You' by Eddie Johns. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo chopped the sample into segments to create the main melodic hook. They collaborated with New Jersey house musician Romanthony, whose vocals were heavily processed to blend with the electronic instrumentation.
