Levitating

The harmonic framework is a straightforward Aeolian i–VI–III–VII loop, the same structural skeleton found across decades of pop and disco. What lifts the track is not harmonic sophistication but production craft: stacked synthesizers, punchy drum programming, and interlocking vocal hooks that extract maximum momentum from four static chords. The deliberate avoidance of the dominant chord gives the song a chronically unresolved, floating quality — the production makes the harmonic stasis feel like a feature rather than a limitation.

Dua Lipa co-wrote 'Levitating' with Clarence Coffee Jr., Sarah Hudson, and producer Stephen Kozmeniuk (Koz) during the Future Nostalgia recording sessions. The Doja Cat remix was assembled separately, with Doja Cat recording new verses over the existing instrumental for the Moonlight Edition.

Released as part of the Moonlight Edition remix campaign for Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia (2020), 'Levitating' featuring Doja Cat pairs two of pop's sharpest voices over propulsive synth-disco production. Koz's arrangement borrows tactile bounce from late-1970s disco and early-1980s synth-pop while keeping the sound fully modern. Doja Cat's rhythmically precise, drier delivery contrasts with Dua Lipa's fluid melodicism, giving the remix a more playful edge than the original.
