The harmony of "Industry Baby" is deliberately minimalist, built entirely on a three-chord iv-V-i loop in Eb minor. The use of a major V (Bb) instead of the natural minor v (Bbm) introduces harmonic minor coloring that gives the track its anthemic, almost triumphant quality despite the minor key. This simplicity is a hallmark of modern trap-influenced hip-hop production, where harmonic complexity is traded for rhythmic and textural density — the brass arrangements, layered 808s, and Kanye West's production touches provide the sonic interest rather than chord changes.

"Industry Baby" was written by Lil Nas X alongside Jack Harlow, the production duo Take a Daytrip (David Biral and Denzel Baptiste), Kanye West, and additional writers Roy Lenzo, Mark Williams, Raul Cubina, and Nick Lee. A demo version with slightly different instrumentals leaked online in late June 2021 before the official release. Kanye West's involvement came after Lil Nas X played him tracks from the album; West gravitated toward "Industry Baby" because it reminded him of his own anthemic moments like "All of the Lights," and he came in to layer instruments and beef up the production.

"Industry Baby" is a boldly assertive rap single co-produced by Kanye West and Take a Daytrip, released as the third single from Lil Nas X's debut album Montero. Featuring a powerhouse verse from Jack Harlow, the track pairs marching-band brass with hard-hitting 808s to deliver a victory-lap anthem that topped the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
