None reached an audience until July 2016, when one surfaced in a charity shop and was posted to 4chan, sparking a years-long search for the band and a cult following that led to Panchiko's reunion in 2020.

Full musical analysis

D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L keeps its harmony deliberately simple, cycling through diatonic chords of E natural minor without dominant-function resolution. The lack of a V chord (B major) keeps the tonality floating rather than cadencing, which suits the lo-fi shoegaze production where layered distortion and tape hiss blur chord boundaries. The harmonic vocabulary owes more to Radiohead's early minor-key drifting than to any metal tradition the title might suggest.

Panchiko formed among high school friends in Nottingham, England in the late 1990s. Owain Davies (vocals, guitar, sampler) and Andrew "Andy" Wright (guitar, sequencer, sampler) wrote and arranged the four tracks that became D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L. Davies later described the sound as "weeb Indietronica," drawing on Radiohead, Joy Division, and anime culture. The cover art was taken from a panel of the manga series Mint na Bokura.
