Stevie Nicks wrote the song in about 10 minutes at the Record Plant in Sausalito. She had snuck off to a small studio space that reportedly belonged to Sly Stone, which featured a large circular bed covered in black velvet. Sitting on the bed with a Fender Rhodes piano, she composed the lyrics and basic melody, later presenting it to the band who were initially unimpressed until they began building the groove.

As the centerpiece of the legendary album 'Rumours' and the band's only US number-one hit, 'Dreams' defines the pinnacle of 1970s studio perfection. Written by Stevie Nicks amidst personal heartbreak, it blends a hypnotic two-chord groove with ethereal vocals to create an enduring anthem of loneliness.
